This is a new technique that helps tightens mild to moderately loose skin on the face, neck or body.
What does PDO mean?
They are threads made from a substance called polydioxanone. It is the same material used to make sutures in surgery to stitch the internal tissues of the body which are completely dissolved over a period of 6-8 months.
In which areas can they be used?
They are used on the face, neck, decolte, abdomen, thighs, buttocks, knees, arms where the skin shows mild to moderate loosening.
How are the PDO threads applied?
The threads are inserted into the skin through a very fine needle or cannula and they remain inside the skin after the needle – cannula is removed. Depending on the “thickness” and the type of thread, these can be applied to the skin as a net, horizontally or vertically. The number of PDO threads required in each case depends on the area treated and the degree of skin loosening.
Is the treatment painful?
It is performed by using only anaesthetic cream. In some cases local anaesthesia is required.
How long does it take to place the PDO threads?
It depends on the treated area. It ranges from 20 to 60 minutes and the patient can return to their activities.
Are there any possible side effects?
Mild irritation or bruising which usually subsides within a few days.
When do I see the results of the treatment?
The results are immediately visible but are improving in the following weeks as the threads in the skin seem to activate the fibroblasts to produce collagen and elastin which leads to skin tightening. The result usually lasts 6-12 months.
What precautions should I take before and after the treatment?
Before the treatment any blood thinner intake (e.g. Salospir, Plavix etc.) should be stopped and continued a few days thereafter.
Also, after the treatment, it is recommended to avoid exercise for 3-5 days, which may be extended up to two weeks when applied to areas of the body such as the abdomen or buttocks.
Can they be combined with other treatments?
This method can be combined with RF, BBL Skin-tyte (Sciton), mesotherapy, dermapen to enhance the firmness of the skin as well as other injectable treatments such as wrinkle relaxers and hyaluronic acid fillers.
